Magical Marquee Wedding

As the wedding season hits its stride, we look back on the Wedding of the Year 2017 winners Ruth and Johnny Jannetto and their special day.

Having chosen a whimsical, iridescent theme, little did Ruth and Johnny know they would be in synchronicity with what the weather also had planned for the day. Ruth and Johnny chose the dramatic and distinctive Nelson Cathedral for their ceremony and the spectacular six acre gardens at Gardens of the World on the outskirts of Nelson as the location for a reception of two hundred guests.

Ruth advises having fun with the planning and getting all the big things in place first – saying that no one else will notice if your chair sashes are cream, ivory or white! Ruth, along with the help of her mother approached the wedding planning by considering the worst possible scenario to ensure the best possible day, covering any eventualities! Luckily for them this included a beautiful silk lined marquee and the outcome was what Ruth and Johnny describe as an absolutely fairy-tale wedding.

While heading to the reception the heavens opened and buckets of rain added a shimmering dimension to the day. Even more atmosphere was conjured up inside the marquee with the couple adding fairy lights, half wine barrels filled with wine, and other finer details to accentuate the magical atmosphere. Round tables, chairs and crisp white tablecloths made for beautiful table settings which complemented the décor and of course another essential was not left off the list - portaloos! To top it all off, they hired a bar leaner and dance floor to ensure a smooth transition from the wedding supper to their evening entertainment of a live dixie jazz band. The perfect celebration ensued! Whilst everyone danced the night away, a pie warmer they’d hired kept the gourmet pies from their caterer piping hot, which went down a treat with guests at the end of the night!  

We’ll leave the last word to Ruth who wraps up her wedding celebrations perfectly: “Everything was flawless, even the weather bomb added to the intimacy of the day with our 200 guests perfectly sheltered. Having everyone we love in one place for our magical day was incredible.”
