This historic trophy is the first of the big events n the Land Rover Premier Arena. Most of those who will start in Sunday’s Olympic Cup use this as a warm-up class at the show.
The coveted Lady Rider of the Year is a crowd favourite, featuring the best female riders of all ages riding a 1.40m course in the atmospheric Premier Arena.
Get dressed up for a beautiful evening welcoming the newest inductee into the prestigious Hall of Fame in the Continental Events Premier Lounge. With plenty of champagne and canapés by the renowned Orton Tailored Cuisine, this night is not to be missed and is sure to be the occasion of the year.
The second biggest class of the show, the Horseware Silver Fern Stakes, often acts as a warm up for the Olympic Cup, while also giving younger riders a chance at a big title. The Silver Fern Stakes are sure to be hotly contested by a range of capable riders hoping for a big win.
An exciting evening of entertainment, featuring a variety of acts both equestrian and local. *Note that the Extravaganza is not a separately ticketed event. Your day pass allows you to watch the Extravaganza.
Enjoy watching the spectacle from the Continental Events Premier Lounge with our Friday Night “Fish n Chip” Package. Tickets for the Friday Night “Fish n Chip” Package must be purchased separately.
If you want to guarantee a great spot for the morning of eventing make sure to secure a ticket to the Champagne Breakfast in the Continental Events Premier Lounge.
The cross country phase of the eventing will run throughout the showgrounds on Saturday morning. Watch the competitors in the 2* and 3* tackle the course designed by John Nicholson, including New Zealand’s top eventers. With plenty of jumps and space to choose from, you’ll be able to see part of the course from nearly anywhere on the showgrounds.
This class takes place late Saturday afternoon and attracts thousands of spectators. The winner of the 1.45m Premier Stakes will be awarded the Tom Gadsby Memorial Trophy.
Early Saturday afternoon the ponies come out in force to contest the most prestigious title in New Zealand for young riders. It’s always a very competitive class with the teenage riders and their pint-sized mounts taking daring turns at top speed.
Riders will be tested over a show jumping course to find out who will come out victorious in the 2018 Eventer of the Year.
The jewel in the Horse of the Year crown, the Olympic Cup is the biggest prize in New Zealand show jumping and attracts the best of the best. Watch Olympians battle it out against up-and-coming young riders as horses contest a course of fences up to 1.60m in height. With a fantastic field of classy riders, this class is one to watch!
The GJ Gardner Homes Grand Prix Freestyle is the big title for the dressage riders, crowning the Dressage Horse of the Year with all of the prestige and kudos that comes with the class. With horses performing to music chosen by their riders, the dressage musical is a beautiful display of the skill and time that it takes to get to this high level.
As always, the shopping is much anticipated, with hundreds of trade sites surrounding the competition arenas showcasing their products. There are some great deals to be had and plenty for everybody, with a new al fresco lifestyle area offering specialty food and wine tastings as well as many other stalls.
The popular Nations Bar returns to its prominent position on the Land Rover Premier Arena, and the new Somersby Cider Lounge will be handily located next to the Premier Dressage Arena.
